Fortnite Week 9 Challenges: Dance Between Ice Sculptures, Ride Volcano Vents, And More (Season 8)

It's a big week in Fortnite. We're now in Week 9 of Season 8, and the crossover event with Avengers: Endgame has begun, giving players the opportunity to wield iconic weapons against Thanos and his Chitauri army. On top of that, there's a new batch of regular weekly challenges, which you'll want to complete if you're hoping to unlock all the cosmetics for this season.

As always, there are two sets of challenges. The free selection is available to all players, while the Battle Pass challenges are exclusively for those that have spent V-Bucks on a premium Battle Pass. You should know the drill by now: Complete challenges to unlock Battle Stars, which will in turn level up your pass and give you cosmetics to customize your character with.

This week, in the free section, players will need to complete a multi-stage challenge that involves landing in multiple locations, starting with Loot Lake. On top of that, they'll need to search seven chests at either Polar Peak or Lonely Lodge, and ride three Volcano Vents without ever landing.

For those with a paid Battle Pass, challenges involve dancing between specific landmarks, doing damage to enemies from below them, reviving a teammate using a Reboot Van, and taking out five enemies in different matches. You can see the complete list of challenges below.

    • Dance between three dinosaurs
    • Dance between four hot springs
  • Deal damage to opponents from below -- 5 Battle Star
  • Revive a teammate at a Reboot Van (1) -- 10 Battle Stars
  • Eliminate an opponent in different matches (5) -- 10 Battle Stars

Season 8 is starting to wind down now, which means there's not a lot of time left to complete challenges from previous weeks and get all the cosmetics in the Battle Pass. We've been keeping track of all the most difficult challenges and put together a comprehensive Fortnite Season 8 challenge guide. If you need to get Battle Stars fast, you can use that guide roundup to get the challenges done quickly.

The update that introduces the Avengers: Endgame crossover also makes some other tweaks and changes to the game, including how weapon swapping works. You can see everything that Epic Games has changed in its popular battle royale title in the full Fortnite update 8.50 patch notes.

Update on Z1BR Seasons, Servers and Showdown

As we’ve stated since the transition, our number one goal is to maintain Z1BR game service while we evaluate the steps required to continue supporting the game. As part of this process, we want to provide our players information about the game as internal decisions are made in real time.

On Tuesday, April 30, we are ending Season 3. We are also shutting down South America servers at that time. This will consolidate our Americas player base on North America, speeding up queue times and ensuring Z1BR's other servers continue to operate for the vast majority of our global community as we lead into next Season. As of this time, we plan to kick off Season 4 on Tuesday, May 14.

We also wanted to inform you that we will be unable to host The Showdown. After much deliberation, we determined it's just not realistic for us to put on a massive global event in such a short window of time that will live up to the standard we've set with past Showdowns.

However, we're still making sure that every player who would've qualified for Showdown receives their rewards, per their Leaderboards ranking at the end of Season 3:

  • The top 10 players in each region will receive their Showdown placement skin;
  • The top 75 in each region will receive their participant skin;
  • And the entirety of our community will be granted the viewer skin that was promised to them at the beginning of Season 3

We sincerely thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this transition. We will be back with more information as we work towards kicking off Season 4.

PUBG Update #28 - Patch Notes

Update #28 is now available on the PUBG: Test Server and is scheduled to hit live servers very soon. As always, we’ll keep you updated and announce when it goes to Live!

PUBG’s latest update introduces our brand new feature Weapon Mastery! Weapon Mastery is a progression system that allows players to earn free rewards as they level up their gunplay skills. As part of Weapon Mastery we are also debuting Medals for players who perform awesome feats during their matches.

In addition to our latest feature, we’ve taken your feedback from our first round of Erangel loot rebalances and made adjustments. Speaking of adjustments, based on player feedback we have reduced the difficulty on a number of missions for Survivor Pass 3: Wild Card, including the elimination of a few missions deemed too difficult to complete.

There are a number of updates to how you can interact with items in the store, interface improvements for squads and over two dozen bug fixes.

PUBG Introducing: Weapon Mastery

Late last year, PUBG Corporation formed a new Mastery initiative dedicated to improving and evolving how progression works on the Battlegrounds. Since then, we’ve been heads down working to establish a cohesive progression system that feels true to the PUBG experience and rewarding to you, the players. After months of planning and development, we’re stoked to finally reveal our first class of progression: Weapon Mastery.

Fortnite's Baller Vehicle Has Been Nerfed

Epic Games has nerfed Fortnite: Battle Royale's Baller vehicle. In a post on Reddit, the developer stated it has "deployed a hotfix reducing the health of The Baller from 300 to 200," meaning no title update is necessary for the change to take effect.

"In the 8.20 patch notes, we said we would add the ability to shoot through the glass of Ballers in a future update," Epic continued. "We've played with shooting through glass and it didn't feel like the right solution."

The Baller was first introduced last month, and allows players to ride around the map like a hamster in a wheel. Epic clearly felt the vehicle was overpowered, however, hence the reduction in health.

Fortnite has also introduced Reboot Vans that act much like Apex Legends' Respawn Beacons. The new feature is part of Fortnite's new 8.30 patch, which brings with it a number of bug fixes and a new LTM named Fly Explosives. For more, read Fortnite's 8.30 patch notes; alternatively, check out our guide to the Fortnite Buccaneer's Bounty challenges.

Fortnite Patch Notes (Update 8.30): What's New Today?

Epic Games has rolled out another new update for its hit battle royale title, Fortnite. Patch 8.30 is now live across all platforms, and while the update number might not suggest as much, this is a particularly significant event. Beyond a new limited-time event called Buccaneer's Bounty that's now live, this update introduces a new respawn mechanic that is now available in the game. Read on for a full breakdown of the patch notes.

Epic recently announced Reboot Vans, and they're now live. Similar to the respawn stations found in EA's rival battle royale game, Apex Legends, Reboot Vans allow you to revive fallen teammates during a match. We've got a full breakdown of how Apex and Fortnite respawns compare, but here are the basics of how they work: When a teammate dies, you'll need to collect their Reboot Card, which is dropped upon their elimination. Once a card has been collected, any member of the squad can bring it to the Reboot Van and respawn them, regardless of who actually picked it up. The vans can't be found in Solo matches, large-scale LTMs, or any mode that already has respawns enabled.

Notably, respawning in this manner doesn't leave you completely empty-handed, as in Apex. Instead, they'll come back with a Common-rarity pistol in ammo, 36 ammo, and 100 wood. After a Reboot Van is used, it goes on cooldown for two minutes. The vans can be found all over the map, including at each major point of interest.

The other big draw this week is the aforementioned Buccaneer's Bounty event, which runs until April 15. Throughout the event, Epic will feature a different limited-time mode to play every day. Treasure maps will also spawn a bit more frequently during matches, and there will be daily Buccaneer's Bounty challenges to complete and rewards to unlock for all players--no Battle Pass necessary. The first of these challenges is already available and asks you to visit pirate camps in different matches; you can consult our guide if you don't know where on the map to find those.

Also new following the update is the Fly Explosives LTM, which Epic says "combines the explosive fun of the High Explosives LTM with the Jetpack." In this mode, the only weapons you'll be able to find are explosives, and Jetpacks will occasionally spawn as Floor Loot. Beyond that, Epic has made numerous bug fixes and UI tweaks. You can read a portion of the patch notes for Battle Royale mode below; the full patch notes can be found on Epic's website.

Week 7's challenges are slated to arrive on Thursday, April 11, bringing players another step closer to unlock Season 8's Legendary Ruin skin. If you still have any outstanding challenges you need to complete in the meantime, you can find tips and guides for this season's trickier tasks in our full Season 8 challenges roundup.

Z1BR and the Daybreak Transition

As many of you saw last Friday, NantG officially announced their decision to transition Z1 Battle Royale back to Daybreak. Like you, we were reacting to that decision in real-time, and are still digesting what that means for the game going forward. That means we don’t have all the answers yet, but we can offer our immediate plans for now until we are ready to share more.

We can share today that servers will remain up, that we have no plans to change the name of the game, or make any other big changes that will affect your current Z1BR gameplay experience. Our number one goal throughout this entire transition is to make sure there is minimal disruption to the game’s service. That means you can still expect to receive Z1BR news through existing Z1BR community channels. It also means that we’ll continue to support the game – through hotfixes, live maintenance, other service updates – as our team works to get back up to speed.

Z1BR is a game that so many of us here at Daybreak have worked on and supported in myriad ways over the years, and we want to do right by our community. As we work through this transition, we only ask for your continued patience as we prepare our plans for the game’s future.

A Message from NantG Mobile on Z1 Battle Royale

In the past few months, NantG Mobile has been working feverishly on rebranding Z1 Battle Royale and reverting the game back to its glory days. We’ve since made countless changes to Z1BR in an effort to recapture the moments that once made the game vastly popular and truly unique and special to many of you.

Despite the team’s determination and commitment to revive Z1BR’s player base with our recent Season 3 launch update, we soon realized that the road is still paved with many challenges that preclude us from long-term success, including the confusion it caused by having both NantG Mobile and Daybreak managing the same game under two separate brands.

Based on these events and the current state of the game, NantG Mobile will focus on its core mission of developing mobile games moving forward, and we have refocused our team toward this vision.

We have also decided to hand back the Z1BR torch to Daybreak Games, so that both Z1BR and H1Z1 will be under one publishing umbrella once again. Daybreak Games has agreed to keep the servers up for players and continue live maintenance on the game.

During this time period, we don’t foresee any issues of this affecting your experience with Z1BR, as we work with Daybreak on ensuring that the transition process runs as smoothly as possible without any disruption to the game's service.

On behalf of NantG Mobile and everyone on the Z1BR team, thank you for all your countless cheers during our entire journey toward “The Return of the King.” We would never have made it this far without your passion, support and invaluable feedback.

Dev Letter: Rustle/Rattle Sounds Improvement

Among the updates to gameplay balance we released in the latest patch (Patch 27), we made an improvement to the sounds generated by a character's movement, which is a critical sound for gameplay. To provide detailed information on the Rustle/Rattle changes, we would like to explain the changes thoroughly and give some before and after examples.

Previous Character Movement Sounds

In order to continually improve realistic elements in PUBG, our DEV teams recently turned their focus to the sounds that are generated from character movement. Previously, when a character was sprinting at full speed, using the shift key, the character emitted a fixed amount of Rustle/Rattle sounds. The video below gives a good example of this.<Previous movement sounds while running with and without equipment>

As you can see from the video above, the character was still emitting rustling sounds in the early game, even before acquiring any equipment. There were cases where rustling sounds were not being emitted when walking and walking slowly.

Survivor Pass 3: Wild Card is now available!

Today we’re excited to announce the launch of our third Survivor Pass, Wild Card!

Survivor Pass: Wild Card offers a mixture of great new cosmetic items with a spy film theme, allowing players to drop into their favorite map dressed to kill!

Wild Card works in much the same way as our previous Survivor Passes, with the main pass allowing everyone to earn rewards for free. Players who want access to more rewards, including several great new cosmetic pieces, can purchase the Premium Survivor Pass for $9.99. Doing so immediately earns you the Floral Bomber Jacket item and gives you access to some additional rewards for completing premium missions.

Players have 10 weeks to complete as much of their pass as they can, earning rewards and coupons as they achieve new levels. You will earn either a Blue, Yellow, or White coupon with each level up, which can be exchanged for random crate keys in the Coupon Shop. For those who wish to skip ahead or supplement their current level, level packs are available for purchase once again, immediately granting you the rewards from those levels.

In addition to what we’ve done previously with Survivor Passes, we’ve adjusted the difficulty of missions overall, and have added a new series of challenge missions that revolve around your skills with certain weapons. Completing these missions will unlock a special skin for that weapon, so be sure to complete these if you’re looking for a stylish new way to show off your Tommy Gun, Beryl M762, S686, UMP45, or M16A4 skills!

Survivor Pass: Wild Card is available now and runs until 7pm PDT on June 4th. Complete your missions, earn XP, and dress to kill!

Update #27 - Now Live

PUBG's latest content release, Update #27, is now available on live servers and we're excited to announce with it the launch of our third Survivor Pass, Wild Card! Read all about it here.

Check out the patch report below for a rundown of what to expect in this update!

To see all the changes included in this update in detail, head over to our patch notes.

This update brings the brand new Survivor Pass 3: Wild Card! With up to 60 rewards available. In celebration of the PUBG 2 year anniversary, we’ve also be added a free 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CAP to the store.

Survival Title System Season 3 has also now been launched! Survival Points from Season 2 have been soft-reset, meaning you don’t have to start completely from scratch. Players who reached the threshold to claim season rewards will receive them soon.

Major changes have been made to the Flare Gun, including quality of life improvements. We’ve added the new MP5K SMG to Vikendi, bumped up the loot on Erangel, made lots of changes to weapon balance, including making the M16A4 stronger, and also reduced aim punch.

Dev Letter: Patch 27 Gameplay Balance

We recently released Update #27 on the Test Server, which included lots of changes, including the new MP5K SMG, Survivor Pass 3, and changes to the Survival Title System for season 3. In addition to these, we made quite a few changes to gameplay balance and wanted to go a little more in depth on our thought process behind those in this Dev Letter.

Update #27 is the first major balance patch of 2019. We introduce balance patches such as these to keep the game evolving and prevent gameplay from becoming stale. Our goal is to release a pretty major balance patch roughly once per quarter, to provide a more diverse PUBG experience and keep the game evolving and feeling fresh.

Z1BR Game Update: March 27, 2019

Reticle Blocking Begone

Currently there are two situations where your reticle will get blocked, aiming uphill and while crouch strafing, both of which make it extremely difficult to aim. With today's patch we have made the following adjustments that address these issues:

  • Lowered the weapon placement on the back of the character model to prevent weapons from blocking the reticle when aiming up hill.
  • Moved the crouched camera height up to prevent the players head from blocking the reticle when strafing side to side while crouched.

  • Made an optimization to how the system handles packet bundling. Players should be seeing an improvement of 5-10 ms in their pings.
  • A few things relating to how the in game HUD animates specific elements are being changed/optimized to increase performance and address possible micro stutters.
  • Applying a change to a system that interacts with the in game UI that should net players some extra frames. FPS gain will vary based upon players hardware.
  • Optimized the in game flora.

Bug Fixes

  • Removed vehicle spawners for POIs that no longer exist. (ex: Carnival)
  • Swapped out the H1Z1 logos to Z1 logos on the crates in the background of the "Redeem a Code" menu.
  • Fixed an issue with the wood slats on the back of some 2 story houses where players could get stuck and be unable to move.
  • Fixed the "Prone Blocked" messaging getting stuck permanently on screen.
  • Fixed an issue with the in queue timer overlapping onto the crowns currency in the front end menu.
  • Green text was popping up at the start of the match in the broadcast message. This text color has been corrected to white to match the rest of the messaging that occurs in this system.
  • Fixed: After a team mate died and went into spectate mode their chevron was still visible to the players were still alive. It would show up floating behind whoever the player was spectating.
  • Fixed a bug that was briefly popping the end match screen onto a players screen when they were clicking spectate to watch their team mate who was still alive.
  • After throwing your last grenade, regardless of type, players were being swapped to their fists. This has been changed to use whatever the previous weapon slot the player had active before using the throwable.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the end game screen from showing up in fives matches.
  • Fixed a bug that was making the shot block icon get stuck on screen if you switched to fists while a player was using free look.
  • Various fixes to the messaging on the requirements of a few missions.
  • Fixed an error for a portion of the UI that wasn't switching from English to the localized language for other regions.
  • Audio feedback was not playing when mousing over menu options, this has been fixed.
  • In normal solos at the end of a match the messaging was still telling players they needed to go to Ranked Pro mode to progress. This was a messaging error in the system and has been corrected to show the player how far they have to go to get to the next tier.
  • Cleaned up team mates loading into the world on the front end menu when joining the group.

Known Issues

  • The weapon model in the kill feed may appear facing the wrong direction.

Changes to Bonus/Gift Code Policy

PUBG has been generating various codes for cosmetics items since March of 2017 and over 5 million item codes have been distributed globally through events and promotions.

Distributed codes have historically had no expiration date, which has lead to cases of codes not being used for their intended purpose, or otherwise being exploited/abused. Therefore, in the coming weeks, we will be deactivating certain existing item codes to prevent further abuse and facilitate a healthy item economy.

These changes will also allow us to continue offering players opportunities to obtain item codes through events and promotions well into the future.

New Fortnite Floor Is Lava LTM Teased

Fortnite will soon gain a new limited-time mode, according to the in-game news feed. The Floor is Lava is coming soon to the battle royale game on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile.

Not much more is known about the LTM as yet. The mode's description states, "Get to high ground or build above the lava that's overtaking the island," while an attached label says the mode is "coming soon," but there's no more clues as to precisely when you'll be able to play it.

No Caption Provided

It's possible the mode will launch with the upcoming v8.20 update. The most recent update, v8.11, added the Flint-Knock Pistol, One Shot LTM, and more--here's hoping the next patch is similarly bountiful.

Fortnite recently hit another huge milestone in player numbers--the game has now amassed over 250 million players in total, with a record concurrent player count of 10.8 million. Elsewhere, Fortnite studio Epic announced at GDC that it's created a $100 million fund for developers that was made possible thanks to the success of its battle royale phenomenon. What's more, Epic announced that Quantic Dream's PlayStation-exclusive titles including Heavy RainBeyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human are coming to the Epic Games Store this year.

Second New Apex Legends Character Is Coming In Season 1, According To Sony

Season 1 of Apex Legends launched on March 20 and, alongside the first wave of cosmetic items for players to grind out as part of the Battle Pass, developer Respawn Entertainment also introduced a new character called Octane. While most assumed that Respawn was planning to release one character per season, it seems that isn't the case and another Legend will be made available before Season 1 is over.

That's according to a listing for the Apex Legends Season 1 Battle Pass on the PlayStation Store, which references a second new character and a weapon. "Two new characters will launch over the course of the season," it reads. "But in the meantime, look out for a new weapon set to launch as the season progresses. Best of all, each new Legend and weapon will launch with a full set of cosmetics to unlock. Two new items will be introduced during the season that will offer something new and innovative to the strategic mix."

No Caption Provided

The first of the two new characters mentioned in the PlayStation Store listing is Octane, who is available now. Thus far, the only new weapon introduced is the Havoc assault rifle, which became available in February. Currently, there are no further details on what the new weapon is. Although the same can be said for the second new character, dataminers may have given us some indication of who's next. They found the names of a number of characters in Apex Legends' code and among them was Octane, indicating that Respawn may be picking from this pool of Legends.

Following the datamining leak, however, Respawn took to Reddit to advise the Apex community not to believe everything they see. "There's lots of stuff that has been datamined from Apex since launch and is swirling around the Internet," said community manager Jay Frechette. "We know this stuff is fun to dig up and speculate about, but you should not treat any of that info as a source of truth.

"There's stuff in there that is very old, or things we've tried in the past and cut--remember our design process is to prototype and play lots of ideas--and some of it may be things we're still building for Apex Legends. Finding this stuff by no means confirms that it'll ever come out. At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumor and the real info will come from us when we’re ready to show off what’s coming next."

With the release of Season 1: Wild Frontier and its optional battle pass, you're no may be thinking about sinking some money into the game. However, there is a way to get the Apex Legends Battle Pass for half off, and it's pretty easy to do.

PUBG 2nd Anniversary Letter

On March 23, PUBG celebrates its two-year anniversary since releasing to the public, and what an amazing two years it has been! We’ve witnessed a gaming revolution with the birth of the Battle Royale genre, grew and learned together through beta and early access, and watched our game rise from a small title developed by an even smaller team to one of the most played games in the world. We’ve chosen this day as our overall PUBG anniversary for all platforms, as we felt it best reflects our game’s humble beginnings.

Reflecting on 2018 specifically, we began to tackle some of the issues that came with the lessons we’ve learned as a company, releasing several quality of life improvements and recommitting to higher quality, more stable builds. 2018 also saw the launch of our Training Mode and two brand new maps, the small but savage island map of Sanhok and the beautiful icy landscapes of Vikendi. Lastly, we brought the high intensity PUBG experience to our fans on console with official releases on both XBOX and PlayStation.

Last year also saw the growth of competitive PUBG with our PGI tournament in Berlin, the continuation of Broadcaster Royale tournaments alongside Twitch, and the organization of multiple PUBG pro esports leagues all across the world.

We’re extremely proud of everything we’ve accomplished in 2018 and could not have achieved any of it without your love and support. As our thanks to you and to commemorate our second anniversary, a special anniversary item will be available in-game for free from 3/27 - 4/24 KST on PC and 4/9 - 5/7 on Console. To claim it, visit the in-game store and “purchase” the free item on PC or simply login during the event dates on Console.

But just because we’re celebrating how far we’ve come doesn’t mean we’re not aware of what we still need to accomplish. We’re currently deep into planning improvements to our first map, Erangel. The first changes in this process, increasing and improving loot, have already deployed to test servers, where we welcome your feedback.

We can never properly thank you for your unparalleled support, but on a day such as this, we are happy, we are humbled, and we are more dedicated than ever to making PUBG the best game it can possibly be.

Before we go, we want to leave you with a special message from CH Kim, the CEO of PUBG Corporation.

Happy Anniversary and we’ll see you on the Battlegrounds!
